LaTonia Belcher and Sarah Teren under the supervision of: John Regalbuto and Marc Schreier Department of Chemical Engineering University of Illinois at Chicago ______________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT: Currently the procedure on how to make over exchanged Cu-ZSM-5 is well known and can be made at many different exchange rates [1]. However, no one understands the exact mechanism of how copper over exchanges onto ZSM-5. By comparing how copper and platinum both adsorb onto ZSM-5 leads to a possible explanation of metal types affect on adsorption. Also, by adsorbing both of these metals onto silica it can possibly show how supports adsorb differently. Through these experiments conducted it lead to the possible explanation that copper adsorption onto ZSM-5 may be physically controlled, however it is not possible to rule out other mechanisms of exchange as well. ______________________________________________________________________

Metal-Exchanged β Zeolites as Catalysts for the Conversion of Acetone to Hydrocarbons

Various metal-β zeolites have been synthesized under similar ion-exchange conditions. During the exchange process, the nature and acid strength of the used cations modified the composition and textural properties as well as the Brönsted and Lewis acidity of the final materials. Zeolites exchanged with divalent cations showed a clear decrease of their surface Brönsted acidity and an increase of ...

Designing Metal-exchanged Zeolites for Non-oxidative Methane Upgrade to Chemicals

Utilization of methane to produce chemicals has become attractive due to significantly reduced prices for methane gained from recent development in natural gas recovery. However, the lack of suitable catalysts for methane conversion (other than steam reforming) hinders its advances. While intensive research has been conducted on oxidative methane upgrading over decades, the carbon selectivity a...

Removal of Heavy Metals from Aqueous Solution by Zeolite in Competitive Sorption System

362 Abstract—In this study, the sorption behaviour of natural (clinoptilolite) zeolites with respect to cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) has been studied in order to consider its application to purity metal finishing wastewaters. The batch method has been employed, using competitive sorption system with metal concentrations in solution ranging from 50 to 300 mg/l....

Surface Modification and Application of Mordenite for the Removal of Metals as Oxoanions from Waste Water

In this article, the sorption process of Cr, As and V as oxoanions using modified mordenite zeolite as sorbent has been experimentally estimated. The sample of mordenite zeolite was synthesized and modified and batch method was employed for analysis. Parameters such as sorbent dose, concentration of metal oxoanions in solution ranging from 50 to 5 μg/l and effect of contact time were studied. E...
